- Who was invited: All Great Smoky Mountain National Park SCA Alumni, all SCA Alumni and friends, SCA staff, current SCA interns, crew and corps members, and site coordinators currently in service in the park, as well as park staff and partners.
Highlights of the afternoon program
Highlights of the event included recognizing SCA’s 50,000th member, hearing SCA’s inspirational founder, Liz Cushman Titus Putnam, seeing projects that past SCAs have worked on, hearing from interns about what they are doing this summer, honoring Great Smoky Mountains National Park for being SCA’s largest partner and hearing about SCA’s future at the Smokies and throughout the United States.
Here are some Great Smoky Mountains and SCA numbers and facts:
- 1965 was the first year SCA worked in the Smokies
- 1168 SCA members (crew and interns) have served in the Smokies
- 34 of those members came back for a second round at the Smokies
- 129 of those members served at least two times with SCA
- Summer 2007 there are 40+ interns, 12 crew members and 4 crew leaders
- Currently, more SCA’s serve at the Smokies every year than at any other location
- Smokies alumni currently live in 48 states and around the world in Canada, Sweden, France, Poland, England, Australia, Germany, and Russia.
